Hello all you drummers and to all my students.

Thanks to everyone who has commentated on my posts. I'm sorry I haven't been able to reply personally, but there are so many I just want you all to know I appreciate your support and I hope it will continue.

This year has started off really busy for me, playing with the Nick Val band doing videos, gigs and recordings. It really keeps you on your toes, and off course Silverfox Drumsticks sponsoring me has been a great help.

This post is about discovering new moves. I have a story to tell you about one of my students with a broken hand, he called to apologize that he could not make the lesson. I told him on the contrary, I would still like to see him for the lesson. When he turned up for class we started working on three limbs, we went through some incredible moves such as paradiddles between the one hand and hi hat and same with bass drum. It's surprising how many moves we discovered. This student is a top player from one of the local high schools and consequently when his hand healed he was flying around the set. So if any drummers are out there with an injured hand, be it left or right, try to discover new moves with the limbs you have available. The moves we discovered have become part of my class, why don't you try it?

Thanks once again for the support

Until the next time

Hello all you drummers out there, once again thanks to all of you for your support and wonderful words and excellent comments, it really makes me feel good to think that I might not know you but you are definitely benefiting from my site.

I have just received an endorsement from Silverfox drum sticks and I would like to thank Dave Share for the opportunity. If you have never tried these sticks, give them a shot, they have great balance and feel.

. It looks like fall has arrived and the darker nights are on their way, so here is one of my hand studies to keep you busy in the fall and winter nights.

RLLR LRLL RRLL RLLR

Don't forget to start this exercise slow and increase when comfortable. This exercise is for the snare drum, but for all you adventurous drummers out there, why not try accenting the right hand on different drums.

Here's to next time. Keep up the good drumming

From the Welshdrummer Steve Joseph

Hey everyone,

Looks like we are getting ready to go into the hot weather, don't forget to take plenty of liquids to your gigs, especially if they are outdoors. What I found helps me in the heat are the gel filled neck bands that you soak in cold water. I keep them on ice in a ziplock bag and have more than one. Hope it helps you.

I want to thank everyone who have made comments on my posts and for buying my lessons. Those who have made comments, I am sorry I haven"t got back to you just yet but I do intend to soon.

Here is something to think about. Being able to read will open up a whole new world for you. It will give you ideas, improve your technique and control, expand your vocabulary and help you get a basic idea of what is going on when you listen to a recording. It will enable you to change the feel of a song by adding or removing notes from the patterns you are playing. It will just sharpen you up all around as a drummer.

One last thing if "Project 86" comes to your area, check out Scott Davis, who is one of my students and is blowing up a storm.

Thanks once again, I will be posting more soon with another study.

Steve

Hi Everybody

I hope the new year started off well for you, as it has done for me. As you know playing drums can relieve a lot of tension, so let's get down to a "Hand and Foot Study" today.

This is a one bar repeat exercise in 16's (R means right hand, L means left hand and B means bass drum). Here we go.

 RLLB RLLR RLLB RLLR

Don't forget to repeat, and also accent beats 2 and 4.

For those of you who might not know how to count 16's, you count thus:- 1 e + ah 2 e + ah 3 e + ah 4 e + ah.

Don't forget start slow, make the pattern groove.

 Here's to next time Steve.
